On the 19th and 20th of October, me and 5 of my friends are in a car skipping school for a conference that we've auditioned to attend. The ride was not that boring, but we arrived just a little bit late.
So, around 3 weeks before, we got to make a 1 paged paper, a position paper to be exact, with the topic of Earthquake in Indonesia, and how we've and how we'll manage them. Somehow, the paper i made was done in less than 3 hours, and the presentation went well, the judges liked it, they were my Geography teacher and our Native Speaker.
A week later, a piece of paper in the information board mentioned my name and the other 5 of my friends which means that we are in to the Binus Model United Nations. I know for some people it's not a big deal, but it's exciting to me.
So the 6 of us; Vai, Rani, Julia, Sekar, Avi, and me, plus Bu Ami enters the school and we are welcomed by sort of usher from the committee which are also a high school student. We are 15 minutes late and we missed a presentation from a professor from Japanese Embassy of Indonesia about the earthquake that happens in Tohoku, March 2011. And the day continues as more presentations are presented. It was a man from Indonesia's BMKG Tsunami Responder Team. The man give us a lot of knowledge to learn about how tsunami and earthquake works so we know how to deal with each of the types. The third and last speaker is a representative from International Relations of Indonesia that explain how the country has took part in joining conferences that manages the global cooperation of Earthquake management. The day was so full of knowledge.
"Enhancing The Global Cooperation of Earthquake Management". That was the theme of the next day's United Nation General Assembly simulation. The 11th grader team: Me, Vai, and Rani are selected to be the delegations the country most famous by its neutrality and its safe bank, Switzerland. The 10th grader team was selected to represent the country that was stricken by a devastating earthquake a year ago, Haiti.
There was a lot of things happened during the conference, it was the multi purpose hall that became the venue and 12 countries sit together and discuss few things around the theme of the day. There are alliances made by different countries, how they find resolutions of the problem faced. Our team offered some ideas that finally became the final resolution of the problem, but somehow we didn't manage to speak it up well. Switzerland and Haiti manages to unite in one alliance led by Denmark to form an organization to fund earthquake stricken country anonymously so that no competitions among countries created.
It was a tiring day for the teams of Madania, unfortunately we didn't manage to win the three nominations, which are Outstanding Delegates, Honorable Mention, and Best Delegate. But, well, I think this was our first time to be involved in Model United Nation, and i hope that we'll improve everything and be better in the next events.
